Avon Fire Department provides fire and life safety education for residents, students, older adults, and local organizations. Captain Julie Burns serves as the department’s Public Educator. Education is part of our community risk reduction work: helping people recognize hazards and take practical steps before an emergency happens.
Email fireprevention@avon-ma.gov or call (774) 480-1692. Tell us who the program is for, the topic, approximate group size, preferred date, and a contact person. We will discuss the request and availability.
Schools and Families
Our Student Awareness of Fire Education (SAFE) work brings age-appropriate fire and life safety lessons to Avon students. Topics can include smoke alarms, home escape planning, calling 911, and everyday fire hazards. We work with school staff to plan visits that fit the students and setting.
The Home Fire Safety Patrol is run in conjunction with Butler Elementary School to help ensure Avon families have working smoke alarms. It combines classroom education with home visits and smoke alarm installation assistance for families who need it. Outside the school program, residents can email fireprevention@avon-ma.gov to request a home visit.
Older Adults
Senior SAFE outreach focuses on fire and life safety for older adults, including cooking safety, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, home escape planning, and emergency preparedness. Community groups and senior-serving organizations can contact us about an education visit.
Businesses and Community Groups
Businesses and community organizations may request a fire safety presentation or discuss training needs, such as basic extinguisher awareness and workplace fire prevention. Describe your audience and goals when contacting us. Program content, hands-on activities, and scheduling depend on the request and department availability.
